Day 3: Dance Master Class

Our third day started with a light drizzle at the Tzu Chi Recycling Centre, where we learned about the impact of resource management. It is our responsibility to reduce, reuse and recycle the available natural resources as our daily habits have a deep impact on the environment and our future generations.

Technology has developed rapidly in the recent years and many kind individuals have made use of their skills to invent various solutions to the challenges of the world, including a special waterproof fabric for disaster relief purposes. We also learned about the causes of global warming and the possible solutions we can have. After a comprehensive tour around the Recycling Centre, we proceeded to help out with the recycling material sorting work, categorising the papers according to their colours before sending them for the next stage of recycling. We like how the hands-on activity has shown us that at every step of the way, there must be some of us who need to take a stand and be willing to work for the future environment and global climate that we want, rather than relying on anyone else but ourselves.

At noon, we visited the Five Dime Restaurant, an aboriginal themed restaurant which is well decorated and popular among travellers in Taiwan. The design of the restaurant is quirky and we had a great time bonding over our lunch while seated together on benches around the squarish tables.

In the afternoon, we travelled to the University of Taipei for our Dance Master Classes. We spent some time observing the University Dance students while they gave their best at the practices and joined them for the class. The dance seniors were a warm hearted bunch as they guided us patiently during the practices, this helped us gain confidence and we became more focused on the dance floor. It was a fruitful experience and we definitely look forward to tomorrow's session at the university again.

Dinner was held at Bismilla Restaurant. We had a fulfilling meal and returned to our hotel for a debrief on the experiences we had today. We demonstrated a few moves which we had learned today and shared our thoughts on the footwork.

Here are some of our reflections:

Describe your experience when you visited the Tzu Chi Recycling Centre.

"There were many displays which explained about the items that are recycled in this centre. Creative ways were used to help us understand and learn more on recycling. We helped by sorting out papers into either coloured or non-coloured ones by tearing different types of reading materials. I have learnt about many new things that I never knew were even possible."

"I was shocked to find out the amount of rubbish that were thrown and what could be done to recycle these rubbish. They made really cool and useful things out of these recyclable items. I was really amazed."
     ~ Huifang, 1B

"It was really fun as I have learnt a lot of different things that we can do to protect the environment. They have thought of many different ways to reuse and recycle the items that were thrown and create something new out of these old items."
